Mental Health

Men’s mental health issues are high on the agenda now. At the Glass and Glazing Summit I presented a hidden problem in a male dominated fenestration industry. Across construction and similar environments, men are more likely to mask their mental health problems resulting in the fact that men are four times more likely to take their own lives than average figures.

Following on from the challenges of the lockdown and Covid we now face the challenges of the cost of living crisis, the energy crisis, and an economic downturn – there is only so much that we can take mentally.

The industry is now recognising this, and as a result I have been asked to work with the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) to put a programme together; a mental health awareness kit, so mental health can be addressed, recognised and dealt with; if ignored this can lead to absenteeism and stress related illnesses. My talks centre on the challenges of running a business, the ups and downs of management and sales and the stress that comes with it.

With my personal experiences dealing with mental health issues I can empathise with the challenges we are facing today, and can openly speak about this with other men who may have or be facing similar issues in the future.
